Finally, someone agrees with Tarquin's destiny. It's a relief to have a goal, and some intimation that maybe not all of the world is necessarily permanently destroyed forever.
Also I get the feeling that the entire game up to this point was a tutorial. Up until Quelaag I was still figuring out actual controls and mechanics.. now the designers are free to combine them in horrible ways :(
